This powerhouse of a Second World War movie, has three things going for it in particular. First & foremost it’s a true story, second a perfectly cast Daniel Craig and third it’s a great story of true heroism & courage that won through for once.
Three Jewish brothers The Bielskis Tuvia, Zus, & ASAEL decide to fight back against the Nazis. Partially joining forces with Russian resistance fighters they build a settlement deep in the Belarusian forest & resolve to save the lives of all around them. This legendry group attack German units & liberate the comrades & their numbers swell vastly. They train their followers to defend themselves & much use is made of all their skills. It’s a remarkable saga & the fact that 1,200 men, women & children survived all of this & Zus (Live Schreiber) went onto live & work in New York is amazing. With Jamie Bell as the youngest brother & Daniel & Live up front. This is truly real life adventure with one heck of a bang! 4 stars |
