I have to own up to being a big Michael Caine fan. He is one of a group of actors that will make me turn up at the flicks. Perhaps it’s because we have the same roots? However, he’s part of British movie folklore and a lot of people know that!

So here he is as pensioner Harry Brown dwelling in the Elephant & Castle area of London going about his business. Having a pint at the local & playing chess with his mate Len. The trouble is the area, though always a tough part of the city-used to have rules. Now a days, all that seems long gone, as rival gangs battle for drugs & other unpleasant things. Which all comes to a head when Len is murdered. Harry has had enough and his old marine training comes into its own as he seeks to clean up the town. Whilst cops Frampton & Hickock (Not too wild then?) look on. Its violent, tough and very gritty, but it needs to be in order to get its point across. The word is that this is Mike’s best of the type since Get Carter. Look at it this way John Wayne & Clint Eastwood would have done the same. After all a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do. |
