I have to own up to being a big Michael Caine fan. He is one of a group of actors that will make me turn up at the flicks. Perhaps it’s because we have the same roots? However, he’s part of British movie folklore and a lot of people know that! |

How well I remember a young boy…me…wandering into my local cinema in the 1950’s to gaze at this chunk of tin known as a robot and beautifully spoken Michael Rennie as his minder in the first version of this sci-fi epic. Nowadays so many “close Encounter’s” down the line it’s a rather quaint memory. The overriding factor is. Have we learnt anything since then? And I have to say the answer is no! Why do I say that? Because at the heart of all the affects, and an even bigger robot plus the stone like Keanu Reeves is one message! Mess up the planet and it will fade away. |

At the out set of this film. Walt Kowalksi (Clint Eastwood) is clearly annoyed by his granddaughter’s dress and attitude at his late wife’s funeral. During the wake it’s very apparent that Walt is not close to his grown up son’s and their offspring’s. He is a loner who polishes his Grand Torino at weekends, & drinks endless cans of cold beer sitting on his porch. As an ex Korean war vet and an ex Ford Motor employee he’s earnt his time in the sun. |

In the 1970s I recall standing alone and looking up to the glass ceiling in the Guggenheim art museum in New York , and thinking imagine if that lot shattered. So you could say that the bizarre thought came true, as one of the most spectacular shoot outs in movie history takes place in that same venue and there is glass & bodies all over the place. Question… Why did the police take so long to arrive? Interpol agent Salinger-great name (Clive Owen) & DA (Naomi Watts) join forces to investigate the activities of a global bank whose dealing include financing terrorist groups and far worse. |

I’m afraid this was not my cup of tea. Yes I know it’s a “chick flick” but hey, I wanted to give an overview of a now movie. Rebecca Bloomwood (Isla Fisher) loves clothes & has the credit bill to prove it. All is not well in her world, so she decides to grab a new job on a money magazine as an advice columnist… No I didn’t believe it either. |

I have to say in all honesty. I absolutely loved this. I wasn’t sure if I was going to, mainly because the trailers left me feeling that it might be just a blown up O.K…ish television piece on a large screen. I could not have been more wrong. Emily Blunt (Victoria) and Rupert Friend (Albert) are totally believable as the royal lover’s who became man & wife. You can actually see the love light shining in their eyes. They are excellent. Story wise , it is England 1837, and a young Victoria is the political pawn that is being used. |

A bright young Char-Walla-Jamal (Dev Patel) is hauled off to the police station. Why you may ask? Because one dodgy TV host tells the cops that he’s cheating at India’s version of “ Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” as he’s one away from winning 20 million rupees (Don’t get any idea’s Mr. Tarrant) he’s not, and so during awful beatings & frankly vile torture, he tells his story which is to say the least incredible. |
