LA four-piece Metro Station's eponymous debut is an electro-fuelled pop/rock opus soon to be heard emanating from secondary schoolers' bedrooms nationwide. This is helped in no small part by the band's association with teeny-bop telly smash 'Hannah Montana'. And while older siblings will be out flogging once-cherished Panic At The Disco CDs to pay for interview-sensible haircuts, Metro Station's fanbase are going to go nuts for these bright, young, post-emo electro rockers.
Eschewing the angst and mutilation of their forebearers, tracks like 'Seventeen Forever' and 'Wish We Were Older' recount episodes of teenage canoodling and playground heartbreak over catchy synths and bouncy beats - sometimes you can even hear a guitar in there too, although they tend to be buried under the technicolor sheen for maximum tastefulness. No doubt a hit with the youngsters, older listeners could do worse than checking out acts like St.Albans' Friendly Fires for a more refined take on this sound. 2.5 stars |
