Kyuss - Welcome To Sky Valley -1994 |
|
Friday, 20 November 2009 |
ONCE UPON a time in the mid 90’s, before Josh Homme rose to superstardom with the likes of Eagles Of Death Metal, Them Crooked Vultures and (of course) Queens of the Stone Age, there lived a little band called Kyuss.

Paul Weller (2CD Deluxe Edition) |
|
Friday, 20 November 2009 |
This re-released, special edition CD offers the best of both sides of the Modfather as far as I’m concerned, there are brilliantly recorded versions of some of his well known classics which include, “Uh Huh Oh Yeh” and “Into Tomorrow”, as well as some very well performed demos and various other versions of songs such as “I Didn’t Mean To Hurt You” and an acoustic version of “Butterflies” on disc two. |

Yeah Yeah Yeahs: It’s Blitz |
|
Monday, 30 March 2009 |
I would definitely say that this album was full of energising power pop. This album demonstrates a bit of a revolution in the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s style. Previous albums have been known to be far more post punk than this one. I think that this shows that the band have “grown up” a bit more and are taking their music far more seriously. |

My first impressions of this album weren’t brilliant. I wasn’t too sure of the eighties revival styling they were going for and I really couldn’t see myself wanting to listen again in all honesty. I thought that the vocals provided by Natasha Kahn were odd and really not to my liking. |

Hundred Reasons: Quick the word, Sharp the action. |
|
Monday, 30 March 2009 |
Surrey based band Hundred Reasons re-released this album recently. From what I have heard of them they have never written a bad song, and this album is no exception! The band successfully mixes traditional rock with often softer and more calming undertones to make their songs totally unique to anything mainstream. |

The maybes: Trick of the light |
|
Monday, 30 March 2009 |
English indie rock five piece The Maybes really impressed me with this single. The vocal stylings remind me of those that you would hear when listening to bands such as the verve. I think that it is definitely worth a listen and know for sure that you will want to listen over again! The song itself offers something different. |

The Enemy: No Time For Tears |
|
Monday, 30 March 2009 |

I’m sure some of you like me would have been waiting to hear this for a while. Is it worth the wait? Yes, really worth it… Its starts with a nice little piano sound then comes the shuffle beat of the drums then Clarke’s powerful vocals, then laid over the top of all this is his heavy guitar sound. |

The Boo Radleys: Giant Steps |
|
Monday, 30 March 2009 |
In only a couple of years, the assimilation of sixties music by the Britpop brigade would be all encompassing, with Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn regularly borrowing great chunks from the works of John Lennon and Ray Davies respectively to fuel their own hit singles. But rather than ripping off the sounds of his parents’ records wholesale, Carr’s tribute to the sixties lay in combining extreme sonic experimentation with a jeweler’s eye for pure pop music. More “Revolution No.9” than “Hard Days Night”, none of the 17 tracks on ‘Giant Steps’ are left untreated by Carr’s gleeful studio trickery. |
