“ I thought that alcoholics were down and outs drinking cider on park benches. I had a good job, family, a car, everything I thought I ever needed. But all I could think about was drinking and when I started drinking, well I simply couldn’t stop. I felt lonely, afraid and miserable. When I got to Alcoholics Anonymous I realised that alcoholism can affect anybody. I learnt how to live my life happily without alcohol. I have not had a drink for a few years now and my life has never been happier” |

A brief history of the parish
Early civilisation in the area is indicated by traces of Bronze Age burial mounds and a later Roman road and tumulus. The Manor of Almshoe, the earlier settlement in the south of the parish, was recorded in the Domesday Survey of 1086. An account roll records in 1358 expenses incurred by ‘the Queen and the Queen of Scotland, in the Park of Almeshoe’. |
