Kiss the Sun EP

ImageThe first song on the CD is hypnotic drum sounding ‘Kiss the Sun’ great haunting chanting vocal. There is even an orchestral sound running in the background. ‘Black and White’ starts with a clean acoustic guitar, followed by a vocal sounding like Marc Bolan, there is a riff running all the way through that just keeps you hooked and I’m really looking forward to the album.

Persistence in this game

ImageA new, young and fresh straight up Rock n’ Roll band introducing their first album. The band ended 2009 rather successfully as they supported back to back tours with Kids in Glass Houses, The Automatic and Motorhead. These shows were the band’s first national tour of the UK. Okay the album the band has produced has a rather ecstatic feel to it.  The drumming by Dane Campbell is perfect .The opening track ‘Versus the Allegiance’ is a good track however not my favourite on the album. As I listened to the next few tracks on the album ‘Loose Change’ and the final track on the album ‘Set me on Fire’ and ‘Feed me to the Wolves’ I knew these catchy choruses and some quality riffs on the guitar would earn the album a permanent spot in my collection.

Are You Ready

New band formed by Richard Ashcroft. From the opening beat of the drums you’re already on board. Then into the orchestral sound which is very Ashcroft. The guitar playing is very ‘Rolling Stones’ as is the piano riff for that matter. It’s about time he came back to his best and I think with this track and the new album we might just get it.

She Said

Image‘She Said’ is the second single from ‘The Defamation of Strickland Banks’ album. This is a track that Amy Winehouse would have died for to have on her last album or the new one for that matter. Plan B’s soul voice is exceptional, there really is no one around that has got a better soul voice (in my opinion). The Motown sound he has on this track will be a winner on radio. The rap he adds to the track also works really well. He’s taken his time to learn his craft and I’m pretty sure he will be around for a while.

Hatfield Forum Saturday 6th February

ImageNow when I heard I was going over to review SGC I was not exactly jumping for joy. If I’m honest though, I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. If you’re aged between 11 - 30 and are up for a singsong there could be worst bands you could see. This is perfect pop at its best, they brought out all the big guns tonight i.e. ‘Elvis ain’t Dead’ Then they played ‘Blue Suede Shoes’, ‘I Wish I was James Bond’, ‘Heartbeat’, ‘It’s Not About You’ and their new single ‘This ain’t a Love Song’ and then on to some new songs from ‘Everybody Wants to be on TV’. The very catchy ‘Famous’ and the jump up and down ‘1+1=3’. They also added a Michael Jackson cover ‘Black & White’ and a Wings song ‘Live and Let Die’. They ended the night with ‘She’s so lovely’. The crowd was fantastic and sang to nearly every song they played. I’m sure if the Hatfield Forum keep putting nights like this on it will be a Hugh success for the already brilliant venue.

Hatfield Forum Friday 5th February

ImageJim Morrison is alive and well and playing in Hatfield! Well sort of, it’s really hard when you hear a cover band playing tunes that you’ve grown up with. One half wants to go and hear the songs played live, the other half is worried that it’s not going to match with what you think it should be. Well I’m happy to tell you that the first half is the winner here. All the hits are here from ‘LA Woman’ to ‘Peace Frog’. Stand out tracks tonight ‘Break on Through’, ‘Roadhouse Blues’ and ‘Soul Kitchen’. It’s a shame that the drummer was hurting from a sore arm because I think with them all firing on all cylinders we would have seen one of the best cover bands around but with that said and done I still think they are worth going out to see. Catch them soon if you can.
