Dorian Gray - DVD

ImageOscar Wilde’s classic horror novel is given a new treatment for the big screen. Dorian Gray (Ben Barnes) comes back to his Victorian London childhood home. Young and very handsome he is easily led astray by Lord Henry Wotton (Colin Firth) and gets drawn into a world of decadence. Meanwhile Basil (Ben Chaplin) paints the famous portrait of our main character. Which as he sinks further into the pit of evil begins to age and change. So Dorian hides in the attic, as he’s ashamed, his decline forces him to flee.

Fear not he returns in 25 years, still the pretty boy. How has he managed to do that? You’ll have to see it and find out.
Directed by Oliver Parker, this Ealing Studios film is well captured in the historical sense the change to the 1920’s being very notable. I’ve never seen so many vintage cars. Ben Barnes is as beautiful to look at as Dorian, Firth does his still in frame act and the whole thing is horribly decadent which you will love or not depending upon your taste I would think.
