Doubt: Cinema

The action of this film drama, takes place in the Bronx of the early 1960’s when change is taking place. Father Flynn (Philip Seymour Hoffman) is up for mixing new ideas into the traditional Catholic School system that he teaches & preaches in. Indeed as the movie begins he’s preaching a sermon about doubt. Which is not well received by the stern principle sister Aloysius (Meryl Streep) gradually this duo become opposing in all things. Especially when sister James (Amy Adams) tells her boss that the farther is paying a lot of attention to the schools only black pupil. What ensues is that the principle pursues an investigation of Flynn’s behaviour, and literally accuses him of conduct unbecoming. This high-powered piece is intelligent & well written & captures the era very well. Streep is so good, she reminds me of long forgotten horrible teacher’s. 3 stars
