How well I remember a young boy…me…wandering into my local cinema in the 1950’s to gaze at this chunk of tin known as a robot and beautifully spoken Michael Rennie as his minder in the first version of this sci-fi epic. Nowadays so many “close Encounter’s” down the line it’s a rather quaint memory. The overriding factor is. Have we learnt anything since then? And I have to say the answer is no! Why do I say that? Because at the heart of all the affects, and an even bigger robot plus the stone like Keanu Reeves is one message! Mess up the planet and it will fade away. Sadly, I think we have gone a little down that road. This movie which is executed on a lavish scale tells the tale of how an alien (Reeves) turns up in Central Park N.Y. He exits in a pod and slowly whilst in the laboratory evolves into Klattu (in the movie) as sphere’s are landing all over the world, our alien is clearly linked to all this. Well yes of course he is. Wouldn’t you know ladies’ it takes a girl to sort it out. Basically biological scientist (Jennifer Connolly) reverses a catastrophe & you know what old reeves…Sorry Klattu… Doesn’t even give her a kiss. Shame I say. Still what can I say he’s an alien.
